This is a Speckled Wood butterfly, seen here displaying on a nettle on the track leading to Gayton Thorpe. It seems that they love the semi-shade of woodland edges and rides. The larvae eat grasses but nettles also like the damper areas in semi shade and they do provide good sites for sitting and defending territories.
