As you enter the village at its southern end, along Wilson's Drove, you reach a T-junction. To your left is Water Lane. These cottages stand on the west side at the top of the lane, pictured here on New Year's day 2002. The lane turns into a rough track immediately after these cottages and peters out as it makes it's way towards the area known, these days, as the Watercress Beds.

This pair of cottages, probably built in the middle of the 19th century, are now the most southerly of the houses in the village. However, old maps indicate that once there were at least another pair of cottages beyond.

To continue through the village, you make a sharp right turn into Church Lane which runs north to rejoin the main road.
