A mile to the west of East Walton, after a steady climb you'll find the entrance to Soigne Wood on the top of the highest land for miles around. The wood was planted and named in memory of the skirmish which was part of the Battle of Waterloo.

The Westacre estate was created for the major country pursuits of hunting, shooting and fishing. There was a time when this would have meant that anyone found here would have been chased off unceremoniously. Now the notice announces "Welcome! By agreement with the owner you are welcome to walk here". Indeed the owner has received awards, and money, from the Forestry Commission, for opening up his land.
