The depressions which have formed the many small ponds all across East Walton Common are known as Pingos, which were originally created at the end of the Ice Age by melting ice. There is only one other site in Norfolk with similar formations.

In the distance the gate in the new fence can be seen. The cottages beyond are those that stand in the north east corner of the Common, North and South Cottages.
